Join Dr. Jonathan Nauman as he discusses "Tolkien on Heroism and Politics" and Dr. Holly Faith Nelson as she speaks on "Louise Imogen Guney's Connections with Tolkein on the New Epoch."

Jonathan Nauman will survey Tolkien’s response to his war-era political landscape, thereby revealing the political implications of Tolkien's fiction. Dr. Holly Faith Nelson will demonstrate that Louise Imogen Guiney, working in the library at Oxford University when Tolkien was a student there, shares many of Tolkien's views on the need to, in the words of the Catholic philosopher Charles Taylor, re-enchant the world by rejecting early twentieth-century secular politics and epistemology.

The evening is also a book launch for Borderlands: The Art and Scholarship of Louise Imogen Guiney. This event is co-sponsored by the Gender Studies Institute.
