As a member of the Fall 2020 incoming class, you are embarking on a new adventure.  One that is different to the adventure of any incoming class in TWU’s history.  The world’s journey back from COVID-19 will reshape many aspects of life, including access to university education.  This semester will require creativity and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.  Trinity Western University is ready for this challenge, and we know that you are too.

While there are things that we do not know about the weeks and months to come, there are several things of which we sure:

  • TWU will be ready to start the Fall 2020 semester
  • You will be able to begin your studies on-time
  • We have developed a multi-access approach that will allow for a safe and flexible journey back to life on campus for all students
  • Fall 2020 will be incredible and we’re glad that you will be part of it

Now, let’s get started!

Your Fall 2020 class schedule will be made up of 3 components: Core Classes, Program-Specific Courses, Electives (if there is room in your schedule)

Core Classes (7 Semester Hours)

Program-Specific Courses (3-9 Semester Hours)

Additional Courses

All incoming students will be pre-registered in 3 core classes (7 semester hours):
  • Foundations (1 SH)
  • Philosophy (3 SH)
  • Writing or English* (3 SH)

These classes will form the foundation of our schedule.

New for Fall 2020, these classes will be cohort-based.  This means that you will be with the same group of students in all three classes.  We are embedding learning coaches and peer tutors into these courses to ensure that all incoming students get off to the best start possible.  The professors of these 3 courses are working together to integrate content and assignments.  For example, you may discuss a concept from your English class while you are in your Philosophy class, or vise-versa.  Because your cohort will move through these 3 classes together, you’ll quickly make friends as you start your time at TWU.

These courses will depend on the degree program that you intend to pursue.  For example,  Business students will take Business classes and Biology students will take Biology classes.

If you are not sure what program you want to pursue, no problem!  Round out our schedule with additional Core Classes and you’ll be sure of a schedule that will apply to any program that you decide upon later.

Your schedule should include 15-16 semester hours. 

If you still have room in your schedule after adding your program-specific courses, you can add some additional courses.  These may be:

  • More classes from your specific program (if applicable)
  • More Core Classes
  • Electives (any class that you are interested in.  Ask your Admissions Counsellor for suggestions, if needed)

Steps to Course Registration:

On May 13, you will be able to access the online course registration system.  Contact your Admissions Counsellor if you would like more advice on what classes to select, or if you have questions about the registration process.  Log into twu.ca/apply and click on Course Registration

  1. Your schedule will be pre-filled with 3 Core Classes (7 Semester Hours)
  2. Add the program-specific courses to your schedule, as per the lists below
  3. Add additional courses to bring your schedule up to 15-16 Semester Hours (5-6 classes total)
  4. Your Admissions Counsellor will review your course selection and provide feedback. 

Writing or English?
You will be pre-registered in either a Writing or an English course for Fall 2020.  The selection will depend upon your high school (or college/university transfer) English grade from your report card or transcript.

ENGLISH 103 - Introduction to Fiction​ – Students entering from high school: 73% (B) in Grade 12 English or equivalent; or a score of 570 or higher on the writing portion of the SAT; or a score of 23 or higher on the English portion of the ACT; or a score of 5 on the essay component of the LPI (Language Proficiency Index).
Transfer students: 67% (C+) in a post-secondary English course from a recognized English-speaking post-secondary institution; or a score of 5 on the essay component of the LPI (Language Proficiency Index); or a completed Bachelor’s degree from a recognized English-speaking post-secondary institution. If transfer students do not have any post-secondary English credit, they will be assessed using the same criteria for students entering from high school.

WRITING 101  - Writing and Culture – You will be pre-registered in this course if you indicated that English is not your first language
