BC Curriculum (local or offshore)

Academic Admission Requirements

  • Total of 4 Grade 12 Academic Courses (English 12 + 3 more) with a 70% average. Note that English 12 is required for academic entry.
  • The English 12 requirement is 55%.
  • Students must have achieved the Dogwood (graduation verification)
  • Three academic Grade 11 courses (or equivalent) are also recommended including English 11, not including physical and health education, career education, applied design, skills and technology, and religious studies courses.  It is recommended that one course in Grade 11 and one course in Grade 12 be a Math or Science. 

Proof of English Language is met by time in an English high school:

  • For Offshore schools, we require 3 years in the BC curriculum. This meets the language requirement.
  • For local BC students, less than 3 years will be accepted

US Curriculum (in the US or at an international school using US curriculum)

Academic Admission Requirements

Standard requirements: Four years of high school in US Curriculum with:

  • 4 English
  • 3 math
  • 2 sciences
  • 2 socials
  • 2 others

Proof of English Language is met by time in an English high school:

  • For international schools, we require 3 years in the US curriculum.
  • For students who are studying in the US, less than 3 years will be accepted.

Foreign High Schools

Academic Admission Requirements 

Equivalent of 70% in academic courses.

Specific grades and requirements are dependent on country (normally whatever academic requirements are needed to graduate and enter university in that country).

Require a language (could be English) + 3 academics

Proof of graduation is required (normally provided by the Ministry of Education or similar government body).

Proof of English Language

Note: For U1 admission, students from countries in which the primary language and the language of instruction is English do not need to provide additional proof of English language proficiency. Students should provide a letter from the school to state that their school is an English-medium school.

IELTS

  • 6.0 with no score less than 5.5

TOEFL

  • 78 with no score less than 19 (U1 entrance)

CAEL

  • 60 overall band score with no score less than 50

Note: Test scores are valid for 2 years from the date the test was taken.


Academic Trial Entry

Students may be admitted into U1 academic trial under the following criteria:

  • Secondary education was in English for 3 or more years and the academic course grades are between 63-69%.
  • Other extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Standard proof of English language proficiency must be met.

Conditional Admission

Students whose language proficiency is below entry requirements can study academic English at TLC on our Richmond campus. Graduates from TLC can enter U1 directly without requiring IELTS, TOEFL or CAEL scores if they meet the other academic requirements.
