Come by the TWU Writing Centre for in-person writing sessions. Trained writing coaches help students individually with writing tasks such as choosing a topic, formulating a thesis, generating ideas, organizing an outline, assessing paragraph development, documenting sources, and revising sentence structure, grammar, word choice, and punctuation.
Mondays to Thursdays, sessions are by appointment and should be pre-booked in advance. Sessions are 30 minutes or 1 hour long. You may book up to two hours per week. If you cannot make your appointment, please cancel at least three hours before the scheduled time, so someone else has the opportunity to participate in a coaching session.
Don’t forget about Studio Days – every Friday, we accept drop-ins! No appointment necessary. You will be helped on a first come, first serve basis.
In-person Writing Session FAQs
Q. Can I book an appointment at the Writing Centre for more than one hour at a time?
A. It is only possible to book appointments for one hour at a time and up to two hours per week. If you require more time, you can come for Studio Day on Fridays during the Fall and Spring semesters (walk-in appointments are available from 9am-4pm).
Q. Can I access the Writing Centre in the evening or on weekends?
A. The Writing Centre is open Monday-Thursday from 9:00-4:30 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm, and Friday from 9:00-4:00 pm. Undergraduates can submit a paper to WriteAway at any time and will receive feedback within 48 hours.
Q. Can I book an appointment with the Writing Centre for help editing an assignment?
A. Writing Coaches cannot edit assignments, but they can identify content or grammar errors in your paper and explain how to fix them according to the requirements for an academic assignment. The purpose of a Writing Coach is to help you strengthen your writing skills rather than to edit your paper.
Q. Does an assignment need to be finished before I bring it to the Writing Centre?
A. You can come to the Writing Centre with an assignment you have only partially finished or if you just need help getting started. You can book an appointment with a Writing Coach for help with any stage in the writing process whether brainstorming, research, writing a first draft, or polishing a final draft.
