SPARTANS SPLIT FINAL TWO GAMES IN SOUTH AFRICA

PRETORIA, South Africa – In its final two matches of its missions and training trip to Africa, the Trinity Western women’s soccer team came away with a win and a loss, falling 1-0 to South Africa’s national women’s senior team – the same one that will play in this year’s Olympic Games in London where they will face against Canada in pool play – before beating the University of Johannesburg 4-1 in its last game of the trip.

OTTAWA, Ontario – Volleyball Canada announced its 21-athlete national B team for the 2012 season Wednesday and three members of the Trinity Western men’s team made the cut as Steven Marshall of Abbotsford, B.C., Dan Jansen Van Doorn of Langley, B.C. and Lucas Van Berkel of Edmonton, Alta. will all represent the red and white this summer.

LANGLEY, British Columbia – This past weekend, former Trinity Western men’s volleyball setter Josh Howatson helped Canada’s national team to a second place finish at the NORCECA Men’s Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in Long Beach, Calif. Despite an impressive tournament for the red and white side, a three-set loss to the United States in the final ended Canada’s only chance to qualify for this summer’s Olympic Games in London. We caught up with Howatson to talk about the qualifying tournament and the upcoming FIVB World League 2012, which starts this weekend.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TO SERVE IN NEW ORLEANS

LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western women’s basketball team will be leaving Sunday for a week-long, May 20-26, service and missions trip to New Orleans, La.The team will be working with Camp Restore to help serve the people of New Orleans who are still very much suffering the effects of Hurricane Katrina, which struck in August 2005.

LONG BEACH, California – Canada’s men’s volleyball team, with former Spartan setter Josh Howatson, lost the gold medal match at the NORCECA Olympic qualifier to the U.S., 28-26, 25-18, 25-20 on Saturday night. Only the tournament winner could land a berth for the 2012 London Games.
