Katie Freiheit

Intern Counsellor

Biography

Hello! I'm Katie and I'm doing my internship here at the Wellness Centre as I work toward of my Master of Counselling Psychology. As a counseling intern, my goal is to hone my skills while making a meaningful impact in the lives of my clients.

I've found that the transition to university can be a challenging one as it often comes at a time in life where changes to identity are also taking place. It can be difficult to decipher who we are, what we value, and where we're headed while also managing school, work, sports, and extracurriculars. Thus, the goals that you bring to counselling don't have to revolve around mental illness per se. Perhaps you'd like to update old habits, or maybe you're interested in better understanding yourself. No matter what brings you to counselling, my aim is to help you feel comfy in your own skin, in your life, and in your relationships. Using a mixture of Adlerian and Gestalt approaches, I view clients holistically while drawing attention to the here and now in the therapy room.

I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth and positive change, though unique personal experiences can make this journey complex. Ultimately, I believe that clients hold the solutions to the problems that they face; therefore, I am committed to empowering clients to tap into their inner strengths and resources to overcome challenges and achieve their therapeutic goals. I am excited to embark on this journey of growth and healing alongside you! Together, I believe we can embark on a path toward a more fulfilling future.
