Scholarships, Grants & Awards

We know finances can be a major factor in choosing a university. Trinity Western’s financial aid program includes merit- and need-based aid. About 97% of our students receive some form of financial aid, so take a look and see what opportunities are available for you.  

Academic Scholarships – $1,600 to $7,200 Per Year

These scholarships recognize students for their academic achievements and contribution to the Trinity Western community.

Academic scholarship amounts are prorated by the number of credits enrolled each semester. 

120% course load = 18 credits per semester (approximately six courses) and 36 s.h. per year (approximately 12 courses) 

100% course load = 15 s.h. per semester (approximately five courses) and 30 s.h. per year (approximately 10 courses) 

80% course load = 12 s.h. per semester (approximately four courses) and 24 s.h. per year (approximately 8 courses) 

Note: Varsity student-athletes typically enrol in an 80% course load over five years. 

Eligibility

Incoming new and transfer students:Eligibility for an academic scholarship is based on the specific courses used to determine admission to the University. Students will be notified of their scholarship in their acceptance letter. 

Returning students: Eligibility for an academic scholarship is based on the cumulative GPA from credits earned at TWU upon the conclusion of the academic year. Refer here for academic requirements for students who entered TWU prior to the 2019-20 academic year.

This scholarship is in honour of the founders of Trinity Western University, whose vision and perseverance helped establish Canada’s first Christian university. The Founder’s Scholarship recognizes up to five outstanding students who exemplify the mission of TWU through academic excellence, integrity, compassion for the vulnerable, and a desire to engage the world's deepest needs.  

Eligibility 

Applicants must be entering a traditional undergraduate program directly out of high school as a full-time student. 

Applicants must demonstrate strong academic ability. Students should have a minimum TWU admissions average of 85%.

Application and supporting documentation must be received by April 1.  

Twenty-five scholarships are available for new and transfer students.  Students are nominated on the strength of the written portion of their admissions application.  Strong consideration is given to students who participate in an organized campus visit.

Eligibility: Incoming new and transfer students

Apply: Complete the admissions application and submit all required documents by February 20

Limited scholarships are available to incoming new and transfer students who demonstrate outstanding talent in vocal, instrumental, or piano performance. Recipients will be selected by the faculty from the Department of Music. See Musical Arts Scholarship page for additional information. 

Eligibility 

Students must be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music. For renewal, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, and participate in private lessons with principal instrument and a large ensemble (for singers, one of the choirs; for most instrumentalists, the concert band; for string players the orchestra) in each semester.  Beginning in the second year, students must participate in a small ensemble (vocal or instrumental, as deemed appropriate) for all remaining semesters of the award.

TWU offers athletic financial awards to student-athletes who are on the competition roster of a TWU Spartan’s varsity team.  Recipients are selected by the TWU Athletics department. Athletic financial awards will be administered in accordance to all Canadian University Sports (U Sports) regulations. Note: Incoming students who are entering TWU from high school must attain an 80% average on the courses used to determine admission to be eligible for an athletic scholarship. If the academic requirement is not met, the athletic scholarship will be put on hold until the student has completed a minimum of 18 credits at TWU with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

TWU provides financial assistance to students who demonstrate financial need.  The TWU Grant is generally the final component of a financial aid package, supplementing remaining need after other institutional scholarships have been applied. 

Eligibility

Students must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the United States. 

Students must demonstrate financial need as assessed by the Financial Aid Office.

Complete the Financial Need Assessment.  We recommend submitting the assessment by April 1 for maximum award consideration. 

Endowment awards are established by donors of the University and are based on a variety of criteria including financial need, academic program, and many other student characteristics.

Eligibility 

Although most endowment awards are reserved for returning students, there are specific awards available to incoming students as well. Recipients are selected based on the student’s match with the donor’s award criteria.

Both Financial Need Assessment and Endowment Award application must be completed by April 1 to receive priority. Endowment applications received after the deadline will be considered depending on the availability of awards. 

TWU will match up to $2,000 of church sponsorship for students who demonstrate financial need.  

Eligibility 

Students must demonstrate financial need as assessed by the Financial Aid Office. 

Students must receive financial support from a church.

Scholarships available for camp leaders at Green Bay Bible Camp in Kelowna, BC. 

Eligibility

Students must enrol in full-time studies with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Scholarships are available to TWU students who serve as camp leaders at Southern Alberta Bible Camp in Lomond, Alberta.

Eligibility 

Students must enrol in full-time studies with a  minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Complete the SABC Scholarship application.

The sponsorship cheque must be written out to Trinity Western University and attached to the SABC Matching Grant application.

Application and check should be received by October 1 for students enrolled for the full year or fall semester only or February 1 for students enrolled in the spring semester only. 

The Muskoka Woods Scholarship is available to students who have served as summer staff at Muskoka Woods.  

Eligibility

Students must enrol in full-time studies with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Scholarships available for student staff at Keats Camps in North Vancouver, BC.

Eligibility

Students must enrol in full-time studies with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

The financial aid and awards listed on this page apply to students enrolled full-time in traditional undergraduate degree programs. Note the Adult Degree Completion program, the U1 Program, and English training programs are not eligible.
