Janice Kamke, MSN, RN

Sessional Assistant Professor of Nursing; Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Program Coordinator
“Driven by a passion for excellence in nursing, I am committed to practice and teach with integrity, whether in the clinical, lab, or classroom setting, and to prepare resilient nurses for a bright future in the profession of nursing.”

Janice’s career in nursing over the past two decades has been characterized by acute care of adults and children in major medical and academic centers with an extensive focus in pediatric emergency nursing. Having obtained her BScN from Trinity Western University years ago, she can attest to the immense value of being prepared to enter the profession of nursing based on a solid foundation of how God views people, this world, and our role within it.

Completion of a MSN from Athabasca University afforded her the opportunity to develop a philosophy of teaching and learning that accurately expresses her belief in experiential learning with an invitational approach to assist individuals to achieve the competencies of the profession and withstand adversity. As a nurse educator and clinician, Janice aims to move theory into practice, and to draw from research to generate new knowledge and evidence-informed interventions.

Janice joined TWU’s school of nursing in 2022 and is enthusiastic about her role in simulation education to address the challenge of teaching not only sound technical skills but critical thinking and problem-solving in nursing. The potential is great for transformational learning as a myriad of real-life scenarios and team debriefing are thoughtfully utilized to promote reflection, challenge assumptions, and change actions in a shared learning environment.
