Jonathan Y Kim, PhD

Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program; Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology
I am a seeker of truth and a follower of Jesus who has found home in God’s grace. My life’s journey has shaped a unique perspective that I bring to the program and my teaching. I am here to serve and love students, explore truth, and dream God-sized dreams together.

Dr. Jonathan Kim brings a wealth of global experience in theology, linguistics, and education to his role. Prior to his current position, he served as an exegetical advisor and training director with Wycliffe Bible Translators. In this capacity, he equipped local church leaders, empowered cross-cultural workers, and facilitated leadership development initiatives across the Caucasus, West Africa, and Canada. His work in Bible translation contributed to the publication of the books of Jonah, Ruth, Mark, and Genesis in a minority language. During his missionary service, he taught courses ranging from Language & Culture Acquisition and Sociolinguistics to Developing Intercultural Competency and Cultural Anthropology.

In addition to his cross-cultural work, Dr. Kim has served in pastoral ministry in local churches, including a congregation in Maryland. Before joining TWU, he directed the Doctor of Ministry program at TEDS for five years.

Dr. Kim is passionate about utilizing resources to support churches worldwide, mission agencies, and NGOs. He is committed to giving a voice to the voiceless, ensuring all can participate in God’s redemptive work. He speaks multiple languages and enjoys listening to students’ passions for serving locally and globally. Outside the classroom, he enjoys hiking with his wife, Bonnie, spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and reading and conversing with friends in coffee shops.
