Admission Requirements

It is recommended that applicants contact potential faculty mentors in advance, before the application deadline. This provides an opportunity for feedback on potential research ideas. Having a feasible topic that fits well with faculty research interests is important for a successful application.

Spring admission: September 15

  • These must be met for priority consideration for scholarships and funding.
  • We will accept applications after these deadlines, subject to program capacity.

Application Requirements

Official Transcripts
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Masters of Divinity (M.Div.), M.A. in Theological Studies, or equivalent, with coursework in the following concentrations:
    • Old Testament
    • New Testament
    • Biblical & Systematic Theology
    • Church History/Historical Theology
  • Biblical Language
    • If applying to New Testament: 12 hours of Greek grammar, exegesis, and text courses
    • If applying to Old Testament: 12 hours of Hebrew grammar, exegesis, and text courses
    • If applying to Biblical and Systematic Theology or Church History, 9 hours of either Greek or Hebrew grammar and exegesis
  • Graduate GPA: 3.5
Graduate Record Examination (GRE)Test scores must be from within the last five years.
Application Form

  • A personal statement
  • A statement of vocational goals
  • A statement of research goals, potential topic, and preferred faculty mentor
Academic Writing Sample Approximately 7,000 words
Four ReferencesThree academic and one pastoral
Interview with Faculty (By Invitation)This will be arranged after all application materials have been received.

Additional Requirements for International Students

Test scores:

  • A TOEFL score of 100 (or 5.5) or
  • A IELTS score of 7.0 or
  • A Duolingo English Test score of 135
