Trinity Western University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. W. Robert (Bob) Wood as dean of the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences (FNAS).
Dr. Bob Wood's commitment to enhancing the educational experience for students and expanding research opportunities for faculty has been evident throughout his career.

Dr. Wood joined Trinity Western as assistant professor of physics in 1992, following the completion of his PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Regina. Within a few years, he developed the University's physics program to include a concentration. During his first decade at TWU, he participated on the Undergraduate Academic Council, Tenure and Promotion Committee, and the Faculty Affairs Committee, while maintaining a robust research program and coordinating TWU's physics program. In 2002, Dr. Wood moved into University administration, where he progressed through several leadership roles, most notably serving as provost from 2012 to 2022.
During his tenure as provost, Dr. Wood oversaw all areas of academic life at TWU, contributing to strategic planning, policy development, and the establishment of new research centres and academic offerings. He supported the founding of several scholarly institutes, including the Inklings Institute of Canada and the Anabaptist-Mennonite Centre for Faith and Learning. His leadership was instrumental in launching the University’s first PhD program in nursing and advancing Indigenous reconciliation initiatives.

Focused on advancing student-centred learning, Dr. Wood facilitated the establishment of the University’s Academic Advising Office and the Learning Commons. He was influential in the establishment and ongoing work of the University Senate, which develops and monitors policies, procedures, and quality standards to enrich TWU’s academic curriculum. Since returning from a sabbatical year in 2023, Dr. Wood has served as professor of physics and interim dean of FNAS.
President Todd F. Martin remarks, “Trinity Western University’s research and scholarly excellence has reached new heights over the three decades of Dr. Bob Wood’s service at TWU in teaching and University leadership. We are privileged to have Dr. Wood assume the role of dean for the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and are deeply grateful for the character, experience, and strategic leadership he brings."
Please join us in congratulating Dr. W. Robert (Bob) Wood on his appointment as dean of the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences.
