TWU Announces 2025 Citizenship Award Recipients

Honouring student leaders who exemplify servant leadership

Trinity Western University is delighted to honour two outstanding students for their roles in fostering a vibrant community life.

Since 1980, TWU has annually presented the Citizenship Award to a graduating female and male student who exemplifies servant leadership and who have made a significant and positive contribution to the campus community. Recipients are selected through a vote by peers, staff, and faculty and are recognized during TWU’s Baccalaureate Service as part of Spring Graduation celebrations.

Congratulations to the 2025 Citizenship Award recipients: Sen Longkumer and Lukas Schuch.

2025 TWU Citizenship Award Recipient: Sen Longkumer

Sen Longkumer, a Theatre major with a minor in Media and Communications, grew up in Nagaland and Tamil Nadu, India. During her time at TWU, she served in multiple leadership roles, including as a Community Facilitator Assistant and an Apartment Representative, helping to make the on-campus experiences of fellow students more positive and enriching.

Longkumer was active in Intercultural Programs and provided leadership as an international student, helping to foster relationships throughout TWU's global community. She also nurtured the spiritual life of campus by leading a discipleship small group and serving as a mentor in the Mentorship Program.

Those who worked closely with Longkumer highlighted her rare ability to connect with people across a wide spectrum of personalities and backgrounds. Known as a “yes” person in the best sense of the word, Longkumer is described as consistently optimistic, having an invitational mindset, and always looking to draw people into what she believes are the highest and best things.

2025 TWU Citizenship Award Recipient: Lukas Schuch

Lukas Schuch, an Education major with minors in English and History, grew up in Vernon, B.C., after immigrating from South Africa. He entered TWU through the encouragement of high school teachers and went on to serve in various leadership roles on campus. Schuch was involved in Residence Life as a Community Facilitator Assistant, a Resident Assistant in Fraser Hall, and twice as a Community Facilitator in Douglas Hall. He also served on the TWU Prayer Team and as an Admissions Ambassador. Academically, he was part of the editorial team for Spaces, TWU’s literary journal.

Peers and mentors alike spoke of Schuch’s exceptional relational gifts—his ability to remember the details of conversations and invest deeply in the lives of others. He connects with a wide variety of people and lives in such a way as to be a light to others (Matt. 5:16). Those who know Schuch describe him as someone who consistently brings out the best in those around him.
