William Richard Green, PhD

William Green is Assistant Professor of Mission and Evangelism at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. A licensed minister in the Evangelical Free Church of America, he brings more than two decades of vocational experience as a pastor, cross-cultural mission worker, and church planter in Asia and North America. Prior to joining the TEDS faculty, he taught at Kairos University.

Will holds a PhD in Intercultural Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His dissertation, The Ties that Bind: Group Solidarity in Ethnoracially Heterogeneous Congregations, written under committee members Craig Ott, Peter Cha, and Michael O. Emerson, received the Paul Hiebert Award for Outstanding Dissertation. He also holds an MTS from Harvard University, where he conducted research under Jacob Olupona; an MPhil from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied and conducted research under Randall Collins and David Grazian; MA degrees in Theological Studies and Intercultural Studies from Grace Theological Seminary; and a BS in Biblical Studies from Grace College.

Alongside his teaching, Dr. Green serves as Associate Editor of the peer-reviewed SAGE journal Missiology: An International Review and is active in the American Society of Missiology. He is also co-founder and CEO of the Equip Institute, which provides accessible, biblically grounded theological training to under-resourced pastors, church leaders, and missionaries across the Majority World, where the vast majority of pastors have no formal theological training.

Will was born in Portland, Oregon, and reared in rural Indiana. He and his wife of twenty-one years, Joanna Green, PhD, have lived, served, taught, and consulted across the United States and globally. In their spare time, they enjoy exploring national parks and other wild places, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, kayaking, fishing, and canoeing (especially in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness). Will is also a longtime photographer and casual guitarist. In a different life, he played team sports and was a mountaineer, climbing in ranges around the world.
