Trinity Western University is pleased to announce the appointment of Araz Hamian, PhD, PMP, as the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, effective immediately.
As Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, Dr. Hamian reports directly to the President and joins the Executive Leadership Team as a key member advancing TWU’s mission and vision. In this role, she serves as a senior advisor to the President, helping translate TWU’s Strategic Plan into action by prioritizing and overseeing institutional initiatives, facilitating effective cross-functional collaboration and decision-making, and leading the University’s Project Office to deliver projects with consistency and excellence.
Dr. Hamian currently leads the Trinity Expansion Project, which will launch a new global seminary at Trinity Western University. In her new role, Dr. Hamian will continue to lead this project and oversee several other key institutional priorities in close collaboration with the President and Executive Leadership Team.
Dr. Hamian brings over 25 years of leadership in project management, having successfully directed several major interdepartmental initiatives at TWU, greatly streamlining the University’s areas of educational innovation (TWU Online Pilot Project), finance and business processes (Finance Transformation Project), and information technology services (JUMP Project).
Dr. Hamian earned a PhD in physics from the University of Manitoba and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Washington, where she contributed to the Nobel Prize–winning Sudbury Neutrino Observatory by developing and coordinating processes for its data acquisition software system. She went on to lead projects for an information technology manufacturer before moving into project management consulting in higher education and other sectors, where she advanced strategic initiatives with institutions such as UBC, Dalhousie University, the University of Victoria, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and the BC Ministry of Advanced Education.
