Internships/Leadership Experiences
Leadership experiences are an opportunity for students to apply what they have learned in their course work in a practical experience either on or off campus. The student will learn from observing others as well as leading in their field of expertise. The leadership experiences, completed in 3rd and 4th year, are a valuable opportunity for the student to learn about potential careers in the field of human kinetics.
Laurentian Leadership Centre in Ottawa, Ontario
Students may choose a semester at the LLC and obtain up to six semester hours of leadership credits. Possible opportunities may include working for the Ministry of Health or Sport, or placement with any of the national sport organizations located in Ottawa.
ON CAMPUS
Spartans Student Athletic Therapist
Student therapists work day to day directly with a varsity program to assist Certified Athletic Therapists in the prevention, management, and care of illness and injury to our athletes. TWU students of any major can join the team to learn leadership and hands-on skills in the sports world. This role will give you the opportunity to learn from and work with an integrated sports medicine team of athletic therapists, registered massage therapists, chiropractors, physicians, and strength and conditioning specialists. Student therapists are paired together to enhance learning through peer mentorship and placed with one of our 11 varsity teams.
Applications are open year round. Placements generally start in August/September, depending on team schedules. This experience can be used for TWU leadership credits or post-grad applications. Position is volunteer with an opportunity for eligible students to qualify for bursary money.
