Transcripts & Syllabi

Whenever possible, please submit your syllabi all in one batch rather than through multiple emails. You can submit syllabi either directly to the Transfer Department by emailing transfer@twu.ca, or send them to your Enrolment Advisor who will pass them along to the Transfer Department. Once the syllabi have been reviewed by TWU faculty (within a maximum of four to six weeks), you will receive an updated Transfer Credit Record from the Transfer Department.

The approximate wait period upon full submission of required documents is four to six weeks. The timeframe for the completion of your transfer evaluation may vary depending on when all required documents are submitted and the volume of applications received. Please see our Transfer Credit Timeline for more details.

You will need to either visit your previous school in person or call/email their front office and ask for the Office of the Registrar. If you still have access to your school's student portal equivalent, you may be able to order official transcripts through the portal. It is mandated that each school stores students’ transcripts, so while it might take a bit of digging, you should be able to access your transcripts for all previous education.

If your school's official records have been destroyed or are inaccessible due to war or natural disaster, please notify your Enrolment Advisor.

Transcripts may be sent digitally to admissions@twu.ca or mailed to:

ATTN: Transfer Admissions
Mattson Centre, Trinity Western University
22500 University Drive
Langley BC, Canada
V2Y 1Y1

For a transcript to be official, it must be sent directly from the institution to TWU. Transcripts submitted by students are not considered official transcripts.

You have one year from your first semester of enrolment at TWU to send all the required syllabi to transfer@twu.ca and complete your transfer credits.

International Schools, AP & IB Credits

TWU credits are granted for Higher Level International Baccalaureate (IB) or Advanced Placement (AP) coursework with a minimum grade of 4 or higher. IB Standard Level courses are not eligible for transfer credits. Transfer credit is only granted based on the submission of official IB or AP transcripts. High school transcripts and predicted grades are not acceptable. Please contact IB or AP College Board directly and have them send official transcripts to TWU Admissions for evaluation. To see which IB/AP courses will transfer to TWU, visit the BC Transfer Guide.

TWU will evaluate credits for coursework completed in foreign universities. Courses taught in non-English speaking countries or transcripts which use a grading/credit system that is substantially different from Canadian institutions must first be assessed by an external international credit evaluation agency such as:

In most cases (with the exception of US Institutions and some other English-speaking foreign universities), an external evaluation will be needed to confirm the accreditation, credit equivalency, and grade scale conversion of courses taken through international institutions before TWU transfer credit can be assessed.

Course Registration, Checklists & Advising

Please ensure that you have ordered an official transcript to be sent from your current school(s) to the admissions department at TWU. Until your official transcripts have been received and processed, our system will not recognize your transfer credit as complete, and your pre-requisite requirements or waivers (if applicable) will not be met.

Before starting classes at TWU, you can contact your Enrolment Advisor with any questions about your transfer credit record. After starting your studies at TWU, please book an appointment with your Academic Advisor to review your transfer credit record and program checklist in preparation for future course registration. Please bring your transfer credit record to your advising appointments. If your academic advisor is unavailable, you may also book an appointment with TWU’s Academic Advising team in the Learning Commons.

For most transfer students, the core requirements remain the same as for non-transfer students, with the following exceptions:

  1. If you are transferring 24 or more credits, you are exempt from taking FNDN 101.
  2. If you are transferring in 57 or more credits, you may have modified core requirements.

Admissions

Yes! Transfer students can qualify for Academic Scholarships and other grants, awards, and funding. Please visit the financial aid page for more details.

If you are signing up for classes at your current institution, check with our admissions team first to see what your best options might be. If you are currently studying in B.C., you can check the BC Transfer Guide. Please note, this is only a guide and does not guarantee transfer. It is not an exhaustive list, so your courses may still transfer into TWU if you are studying at an accredited institution. Please contact our admissions team with any questions.

Transfer credit is awarded up to a maximum of 75 semester hours for all acceptable courses with a passing grade from various accredited universities and community colleges. Transfer credit maximums and restrictions for Accredited Bible Colleges are detailed in the Transfer Students section of TWU’s Academic Calendar.

Your transfer GPA will be used to determine your Academic Scholarship, but your transfer credit grades will not be included in your TWU GPA.

Transfer students can apply for our 4-year nursing program. If you’re considering applying for nursing please review the program's admissions requirements and contact admissions@twu.ca with any questions. The nursing application deadline is February 28.

We have a bustling commuter network, made up of students that enjoy our on-campus collegiums. These collegiums are areas where commuters can come to study, make food, play games, etc. Our commuters are very active in campus events and love how much integration there is with student life. Learn more about our Commuter Programs.

Lots of students decide to live off campus, and there are websites available that can help narrow down your search. Learn about off-campus housing.

Yes, transfer students can work on campus at TWU. Learn more about student employment.

Transfer students can attend the LLC in Ottawa. Students need a prerequisite TWU course and two academic references, so it is likely that you wouldn’t be able to attend until at least your second year at TWU and third or fourth year in terms of credits. Yes, we encourage you to visit campus! You can register for a Preview Day or individual visit. Can’t make it to campus? Check out our virtual tour.

Current & Returning Students

You may submit a Letter of Permission (LOP) Application form requesting permission to take a course through another school for transfer. The application form must be signed by your academic advisor and the Dean (or Chair, if the Dean is not available) of the department which oversees the requested transfer course (eg. Biology transfer requests must be signed by the Biology department Dean). Please note: LOPs should be rare and limited to situations where a student wishes to study something that is not offered at TWU. TWU online courses now have increased capacity, and students can also discuss with their advisor if an independent study or directed study is needed.

LOP transfer courses cannot be taken for TWU core requirements.

If you have taken at least one semester off from studies at TWU, you will need to submit another application as a Returning Student, or Re-Enrollee. This can be done at twu.ca/apply. If you have taken any post-secondary education outside of TWU in that time, please inform your Enrolment Advisor and/or submit your transcripts with your application. This will help determine if we can grant transfer credit. Once you have been re-admitted, please contact TWU’s Academic Advising team and they can assist you with registering for courses for your upcoming term.

In the process of evaluating your transfer credit our faculty attempt to carefully assign credit for work completed at other institutions in a manner consistent with Trinity Western University’s policies and academic standards. If you have concerns regarding credit that has been assigned and would like your assessment to be reviewed, please contact transfer@twu.ca requesting a Transfer Credit Appeal form. You will be required to include supporting documents, including both the syllabus for the course and additional course information (assignments, lab work/lab syllabi if applicable, course outline if not included in the syllabus, etc.). If your appeal is granted after the add/drop deadline for the current semester, TWU's Late Withdrawal policy will apply if you choose to drop a course which you no longer need to take. No retroactive changes to your previously graded courses will be permitted.
