TESOL 1

Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

TWU’s Graduate Certificate in TESOL 1 provides an outstanding foundation in the principles and practices of effective language education, equipping you for exciting opportunities to teach English to speakers of other languages around the world or in Canada.

Offered through the TWU School of Education, this graduate certificate combines in-person coursework with guided observations and flexible practicum teaching placements, allowing you to connect TESOL knowledge with real-world classroom experience. Coursework spans theoretical, methodological, and professional topics, and is enhanced by tools such as the Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) and Cultural Intelligence (CQ) assessments to deepen your personal, professional, and cross-cultural understanding and abilities. You will emerge with a strong grasp of foundational principles in language acquisition, teaching methodologies, classroom practices and cross-cultural awareness and communication.

When coursework is finished, complete the program by choosing from two practicum options: the K-12 international practicum with employment opportunity abroad, or the Canadian adult language education practicum, which aligns with requirements for Standard 1 TESL Canada certification.
