Masters of Science in Nursing graduate is founder of the Canada Chinese Nurses Association

"I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve our TWU community. I found that the TWU team members are real team players, skilled communicators, and are very supportive of others."

— Melody Pan, RN, MSN, Public Health Nurse at TWU's Wellness Centre

Registered nurse Melody Pan is part of a team of COVID-trained public health nurses serving with TWU's Wellness Centre.

Pan brings with her many years of experience working for Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health authorities providing acute, community, and public health care.

Having a caring personality, Pan was naturally drawn to helping professions. “Since I was little, I love to look after and serve others,” she said.

“I used to be a pharmacist before coming to Canada back in 1998,” she shared. “After I landed in Canada, I had to change my profession. My sister, who is a registered nurse, advised me to study nursing.”

Altogether, there are more than 10 part-time and full-time nurses at TWU’s Wellness Centre health services, plus doctors and mental health counsellors. They provide holistic healthcare for Trinity Western students at both Langley and Richmond campuses.

Michele Regehr, RN, MSN is TWU's Director of Health Services. “As a Registered Nurse of more than 30 years, it is heartwarming to see TWU recognize the expertise and experience of our staff RNs and their contribution to the TWU Community," she said.

"We have had the opportunity to expand our nursing team this past year. TWU Richmond has been well served by a team of nurses that have provided education and support specifically to the Richmond students.”

Pan is one of the nurses focused on serving TWU's Richmond campus.

"I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve our TWU community," Pan said. "I found that the TWU team members are real team players, skilled communicators, and are very supportive of others."

Pan graduated from TWU's Masters of Science in Nursing program in 2018. She has worked in nursing education and informatics, and possesses extensive knowledge of nursing policy, curriculum development and evaluation processes. She is a member of the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Steering Committee.

In 2019, Pan translated Global Pillars for Nursing Education into Traditional and Simplified Chinese for the Global Alliance for Leadership in Nursing Education and Science, and the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing.

In 2018, Pan founded the NGO, Canada Chinese Nurses Association, to promote Chinese nurses' leadership.

Pan enjoys volunteering and serving the local community. She ran for a Delta school trustee position in 2018, providing nursing and educator insight on curriculum development and budget issues. Pan has been volunteering for the City of Delta Environmental Advisory Committee since 2017. She helped to preserve a five-acre green space attached to Richmond Old Stevenston Secondary School for public use in 2014.

In collaboration with her nursing colleagues and professors at Trinity Western University, Pan and her team submitted a briefing to the House of Common of Canada on Canada Senior Service, and provided nursing expertise. Pan and her team were invited by the House of Common of Canada HUMA committee to present in-person in Ottawa, in 2017. The team's suggestions were referenced multiple times in the final report, Advancing Inclusion and Quality of Life for Canadian Seniors by the HUMA committee.

In this current season, Pan says that she is looking forward to working with TWU colleagues on public health related disease prevention and health promotion tasks.
