Letter from TWU President on India, COVID-19 and our global community

The following is a letter from President Mark Husbands to the Trinity Western community in response to the COVID-19 situation in India.

Dear TWU,

On behalf of the campus community, I wish to express my deep concern and sadness for the suffering in India caused by COVID-19 and connected infections. As St. Paul teaches us, we should “mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15). As we in North America hope for a gradual return to safety and life beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, our dear brothers and sisters in India face profound loss and suffering.

As a global Christian university, we have many students, staff, and faculty with personal ties to India. We recognize the stress and anxiety felt by many and the burdens they carry for loved ones overseas.

Our hearts go out to the many communities that are suffering globally. At this moment, India loses as many citizens to COVID-19 each week as have been claimed in Canada since the pandemic’s inception 14 months ago. Suffering on this scale is cause for profound grief, deep sadness, and earnest prayers. Trinity Western University stands with all who are anxious over the lives and welfare of friends and family in India and around the world.

We desire to offer support to students, faculty, and staff burdened by recent news of the pandemic. If you would benefit from counselling or chaplaincy support, please know that we have help available through our campus Wellness Centre counsellors and Student Ministries chaplains.

I encourage you to join me in praying for our brothers and sisters in India and globally.

Grace and peace,
