Trinity Western honours its educators on the International Day of Education

As the third International Day of Education is upcoming on January 24, 2021, Trinity Western University recognizes its many excellent faculty who help create and foster an enriching global learning environment.

Led by UNESCO, the international community will celebrate this day on Monday, January 25, under the theme "Recover and Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation". The UNESCO website says, "Now is the time to power education by stepping up collaboration and international solidarity to place education and lifelong learning at the centre of the recovery." The occasion seeks to spotlight "learning heroes, innovations, and financing."

Over the past year, TWU has benefitted from the efforts of many educational innovators. Professor Nina Pak Lui and Dr. Chad Friesen both won distinguished teaching awards earlier this year, having been nominated by their collegeaus and students for superior teaching. In the context of remote learning, Dr. Scott Macklin and the TWU Online Learning team have helped to combat learner loneliness by placing the focus on people before technology.

In the School of Education, Dr. Lara Ragpot won a AOSIS Laureatus 2020 Award for her research and article published on “Early numeracy performance of South African school beginners.”

In the School of Nursing, Dr. Sheryl Reimer-Kirkham and Dr. Richard Sawatzky were inducted into the inaugural class of Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Nursing (CNA). Becoming a Fellow represents the highest honour for Canada's nursing leaders in clinical practice, education, administration, research and policy.

As a global Christian university, TWU is honoured to have students and faculty from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Professor Hyne-Ju Huizenga, who specialzes in leadership and organizational change, is also an alumna of the MA Leadership program. She says, “As we navigate COVID-19, I am ever thankful for how the MA Leadership program prepared me for such a time as this."

“The MA Leadership program has helped me navigate the COVID-19 contexts in my various family, work, ministry, and professional roles by preparing me for a life of service and learning.”

Trinity Western expresses apprecation for our many excellent faculty and affirmation for our creative and innovative learning community.
