Jonathan S. Raymond, Ph.D., TWU president, will be an honoured guest at the City of Langley Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on February 4, 2011. Each year, the City of Langley celebrates volunteers who passionately and selflessly contribute their time and energy to making the City a better place to live. Mayor Peter Fassbender extended the invitation to Dr. Raymond in recognition of the contributions Trinity Western University has made to the community at large.
In 2010, TWU was involved in numerous community projects. Some of the highlights include:
Fall Community Day – Over 300 students gathered rain or shine to serve Langley residents. Whether it was in their homes or in their gardens students gave freely to single parents, the elderly, and all those in need.
Langley Lodge – Each week students bring respect and dignity to their friends at Langley Lodge, by hosting sing-along times, playing games or simply offering a listening ear.
Youth Drop In – Building 272 is given life each week as students create a safe and fun environment for youth. Whether it comes through the food, the games, or the friendship the youth are encouraged.
WORK Core (Workers Offering Real Kindness) – With willing hands and open hearts students pull weeds, paint fences, and rake leaves on Saturday afternoons as a free service to people within the Langley community.
