TWU University Siya:m Patricia Victor speaks in OMNI TV series on Canadian First Nations communities

"The Sto:lo are people of the river.  I am so thankful for the courage and resiliency of our ancestors that have lived on this land since time immemorial. It is through this courage and resiliency that we have the strength to overcome the trauma of our shared history and to walk a good path for the next generations."

— Patricia Victor, TWU University Siya:m and Co-Director of the Institute of Indigenous Issues & Perspectives

On Thursday, January 7, Patricia Victor led an OMNI TV video crew and TWU staff to Cheam First Nation in Rosedale, B.C. to capture a short message presented by her, as part of an OMNI TV series featuring Indigenous leaders and voices across Canada. Victor's grand-daughter, as well as son Andrew Victor, Chief of Cheam First Nation, also participated in this short recording.

As Trinity Western's University Siya:m, Victor supports Aboriginal students directly as a coach and mentor, and works closely with faculty to ensure that Aboriginal perspectives are integrated in all disciplines, providing opportunities for the TWU community to become sensitive and knowledgeable about Aboriginal worldview, history and culture.

As part of her recorded message for OMNI TV, Victor spoke on reconciliation among Canadians, "Our shared history reveals a broken relationship, but as all Canadians commit to hear the truth, to acknowledge that injustice has prevailed, and to walk together to find ways to reconcile, then all of our lives will be enriched."

Victor's interview segment for OMNI TV will air later in the year.

Patricia Victor walks with her grand-daughter, and her son Andrew Victor, Chief of Cheam First Nation, at Cheam First Nation in Rosedale, B.C.
