TWU’s Embark business incubator builds momentum

Bringing entrepreneurs and aspiring venture founders together for practical insights and interactive learning.

Embark is TWU’s newly launched business incubator providing practical startup support through mentorship, programming, and community engagement.

On July 30, Embark—led by TWU's School of Business—hosted a hands-on workshop titled "Pitch with Purpose," designed to help those curious about launching a business refine how they communicate their business ideas.

The event brought together angel investors, experienced entrepreneurs, and aspiring venture founders for an evening of practical insights and interactive learning on how to craft compelling, confident pitches.

Sharing investment knowledge

Through engaging talks and a lively Q&A, participants explored what investors listen for, common mistakes to avoid, and how to align storytelling with strategy.

The energy in the room reflected the growing interest in entrepreneurship among TWU students and alumni, many of whom stayed after the formal program to connect with speakers and share their own ideas. For many, the event offered a rare opportunity to learn directly from those who have both pitched and invested in early-stage ventures.

A dual-campus incubator with a community-first vision

Launched in January 2025, Embark is TWU’s dual-campus incubator serving both the Langley and Richmond campuses. Rooted in TWU’s values-based Christian education and open to founders from all backgrounds, the incubator provides practical startup support through mentorship, programming, and community engagement.

Since its launch, Embark has supported two startup cohorts. The Spring 2025 cohort engaged 29 students, including 4 student founders.

In Summer 2025, over 50 participants joined, including 16 individuals actively involved in 4 startup ventures.

Founders represent a mix of TWU students and alumni, with startups ranging from tech platforms to social impact initiatives. Students not only learn entrepreneurial theory but gain hands-on experience through applied internships within Embark startups.

What founders are saying

“Before Embark, I was building alone," said Aryan Goyal, founder of FreightEZ, "Now, I have mentors to guide me, a real support system, and a clear process to test my startup ideas. It’s been game-changing.”

Embark maintains a strong mentorship network, with experienced entrepreneurs and investors volunteering their time to guide the next generation through one-on-one support and group sessions.

Buidling community connections

The incubator operates across two sites: TWU's Langley campus, which offers spacious facilities for larger events and workshops, and TWU's Richmond campus, centrally located near Minoru and Lansdowne SkyTrain stations, which serves as a convenient hub for Metro Vancouver-based startups. Embark welcomes community partners to join entrepreneurship-related events at either location and actively connects founders with local resources and collaborators.

Embark is part of TWU’s broader commitment to community impact. The Richmond Minoru site is celebrating its 10th year of operation in the city, and establishing the incubator here reflects TWU’s intention to give back by fostering innovation and economic development locally.
