Joan DeVries, M.Div., Ph.D.

Sessional Assistant Professor of Foundations Core

Joan is happy to have returned to her birth province after many years in Ontario. She has been a teacher in several Christian schools throughout the country, and is also an ordained pastor in the Christian Reformed Church. She has served as lead or transitional pastor in 4 congregations. More recently she worked at Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto, first as Dean of Students and then Dean of Chapel, organizing chapel services and leading the chapel teams.

Joan completed her PhD at McMaster Divinity College in the area of Practical Theology. She has a keen interest in how a community’s practices (in pedagogy or worship) are formative in the lives of its people. Having been a worship planner and worship leader herself, Joan is convinced that these roles are pivotal in developing a community’s faith and life through its worship practices. She is thrilled to be able to share that passion with students at TWU.

She and her husband live in Fort Langley near Trinity Western House. Their adult children, spouses and grandchild are all still in Ontario.
