Joyce Lo, MET

Assistant Professor of Education; Coordinator, Education Assistant Program
Empowering students to become lifelong learners who fulfill their purpose and create positive change through cultivating an inclusive learning environment that encourages collaboration, fosters relationships, promotes exploration, nurtures creativity, and enhances critical thinking. In this space, all learners have the opportunity to flourish.

Joyce holds a Master of Educational Technology from the University of British Columbia and is a BC certified teacher, children's book author, and mother of two boys—one with complex communication needs. Her professional passion centres on raising awareness about ableism, disability, and technology's role in education and inclusion. As co-founder of the BC Association for Advancing Communications (BCAAC) and a member of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC), Joyce advocates for children with disabilities and the principle of presuming competence. She is committed to creating inclusive environments where all children can develop literacy skills, build meaningful connections, and participate fully in society. Her life experiences led her to join TWU's School of Education in 2025 as Coordinator of the Education Assistant Program.
