Online Certificate Structure
TWU’s online Education Assistant (EA) Certificate provides current Education Assistants with the opportunity to integrate their practical classroom experiences with theoretical knowledge. This combination enhances their ability to understand and support the diverse learning needs of K-12 students with confidence and competence.
The online certificate is structured for Education Assistants actively employed within the school system. Applicants must have at least one year of experience in an Education Assistant role. Practicums are organized with the Program Coordinator and conducted in a Canadian K-12 school.
This online certificate program offers flexibility to accommodate individual student needs. Students may choose to begin with one course and progress through the program at their own pace. Alternatively, they may opt to complete a single course to enhance their expertise in a specific area.
- Typically, the Education Assistant certificate is completed in 1-2 years. It must be completed within five years.
- Students complete 10 courses, including eight required courses and two practicum courses.
- For those interested in the BA/BEd program, a unique feature of this certificate program is the opportunity for you to ladder one course (equivalent to three general education credits) into the bachelor’s degree.
The online courses incorporate a blend of synchronous learning, such as live online sessions and asynchronous activities, including discussion boards, independent study, and online workshops. This structure accommodates individuals working and residing in various locations across British Columbia and elsewhere in Canada. Live sessions are usually scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays and/or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (PST), depending on the specific courses in which you are enrolled.
