Kinesiologist Stream

Kinesiology students come from diverse backgrounds but share a common interest in understanding human structure, function, and performance. Graduates of the kinesiology program within the School of Human Kinetics have numerous professional opportunities. They can become members of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) and obtain certifications as fitness leaders, personal trainers, and performance coaches. Additionally, they may pursue further studies in health-related fields such as medicine, physiotherapy, and exercise physiology.

Within the kinesiology stream, students have the option to specialize in strength and conditioning. This specialization is recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as an Approved Educational Program, one of only three in Canada. Throughout the program, students are also prepared to take NSCA certification exams for the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) designations.

Kinesiologists primarily focus on function, rehabilitation, and performance, and they can work in a variety of settings. They may serve as exercise therapists, personal trainers, kinesiologists for companies and government departments, or sport coaches. Many graduates also choose to pursue careers as physiotherapists, chiropractors, or medical doctors.

Overall, students in the kinesiology stream come together with a shared interest in the biological foundations of human structure, function, and performance. They are well-prepared to join the BCAK and earn certifications as fitness leaders in weight training and personal training with British Columbia Recreation and Parks. Furthermore, their training equips them to write certification exams with the NSCA for the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and/or Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) credentials.
