Thesis Defence Timeline

  1. Formation of Supervisory Committee:

    Supervisory Committee Member Application for Exception to Policy, if needed.

  2. Three months prior to anticipated defence:

    Nominations for Third Readers (NTR)

  3. Six weeks prior to defence date:

    Supervisory Committee Approval (SCA)

  4. Defence

    Presentation of student research in front of a panel of experts.

  5. Submission of final thesis for graduation:

    Aug 16 to Feb 15 – spring graduation
    Feb 16 to Aug 15 – fall graduation

  6. Graduation

    Students with approved theses are eligible for graduation.

Description

Supervisory Committee Member Application for Exception to Policy

Program Directors must submit this form to request approval for any supervisory committee participant who is not a member of TWU’s Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Nominations for Third Reader (NTR)

Students must submit a completed NTR from their TWU student email (@mytwu.ca) a minimum of three months prior to the proposed timeframe for defence, together with a 150-word abstract or research proposal.

Supervisory Committee Approval (SCA)

Students must submit a fully endorsed SCA from their TWU student email (@mytwu.ca) a minimum of six weeks before the defence date, together with a 150-word abstract.

Submission of Final Thesis for Graduation

Aug 16 to Feb 15 – Submission of final thesis for spring convocation and/or conferral

Feb 16 to Aug 15 – Submission of final thesis for fall convocation and/or conferral
