Spanish

Engaging with Spanish language, literature, and culture.

Broaden your perspective, and open up a world of opportunity.

The study of Spanish opens the door to rich and vibrant cultures celebrated for their literature, music, film, and global influence. TWU’s Spanish program emphasizes both strong language acquisition and meaningful engagement with the diverse cultures of the Spanish‑speaking world.

Nearly twenty countries — including Spain and most of Central and South America — recognize Spanish as their official language. As the Hispanic population in North America continues to grow, learning Spanish becomes increasingly valuable in education, business, healthcare, ministry, and community life. Our geographical proximity to Latin America also makes Spanish an ideal language for students interested in mission trips, travel, intercultural service, and global engagement. Communicating in Spanish is a significant political and economic asset, especially as diplomatic and trade relationships expand across the Americas.

TWU currently offers both a minor and a concentration in Spanish. Each course integrates intentional, robust oral practice with a wide range of cultural content. Videos, online resources, and interactive activities enrich the classroom experience and support language development. As students progress, they build proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and are introduced to Spanish and Latin American literature. Our goal is to cultivate a love for the language and to prepare students — both culturally and linguistically — to interact confidently and effectively with Spanish‑speaking communities.
