Topic: Serving in ministry effectively as a member of a multi-cultural team

Speaker: Dr. Jonathan Kim 

Building trusting and cooperative relationships enhances work effectiveness and increases a team’s likelihood of success. However, perceptions of what constitutes a good working relationship may vary among multicultural team members.

It is human nature to see situations from our own perspective. This colloquium will explore what happens when people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds work together. By taking a closer look at multicultural teams and congregations, participants will consider how they can work together more effectively toward the common goal of obeying Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Jonathan Kim served with Wycliffe Bible Translators Canada for 20 years prior to joining Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS). His work included Bible translation, church planting, leadership development in multiethnic settings, and cross-cultural training in the Caucasus, West Africa, Canada, and other locations.

During his time with Wycliffe, he navigated multiple linguistic and cultural contexts and learned several languages. He has taught courses including Language and Culture Acquisition, Sociolinguistics, Developing Intercultural Competency, Adult Education, Cultural Anthropology, and Missional Leadership.

Dr. Kim has also served as a pastor near Baltimore, Maryland. He is currently the Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at TEDS and an Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology.
