Spartans repeat as U Sports National Champions

Kingston, ON - Led by U Sports and championship MVP Ben Ball the Trinity Western Spartans defeated Laval University 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont. The victory gives the Spartans back-to-back titles and has them finish their record breaking season with 34 wins against two losses, the Canada West league title and conference title.

The Spartans were pushed to the limit by the Rouge et Or as TWU dropped the first set 25-19 before rebounding to take the next two sets 25-19 and 25-17. In the fourth set the two teams battle for every advantage. Laval fended of four championship points for the Spartans while TWU held off two set points by Laval before the Spartans prevailed 30-28 in the final set.

TWU's Daniel Jansen Van Doorn was named the Spartans player of the match. Jansen Van Doorn also was named a tournament all-star with Rudy Verhoeff, while Ball earned MVP honours.
