Hyne-Ju Huizenga, PhD

Sessional Assistant Professor of Leadership
My life is not my own, but to follow where God leads me. I am blessed to live out God’s calling for my life, to serve my students, the world’s future leaders, in such a way that they are equipped to know Christ’s truth, act justly with compassion, and live faithfully towards reconciliation and hope.

Hyne-Ju has extensive management experience from 1990 until retiring in 2018.  She served in operational capacities including marketing manager working alongside the national marketing director for a BC Lions/TSN campaign collaboration on the field for a live televised “Kick for a Million” event.  She also stabilized operations, facilitated change management for struggling units, and helped brand transitions through mergers and acquisitions.

In Chilliwack, she was welcomed onto Soowahlie First Nation reserve, established a Family Place society, and partnered with Chilliwack Community Services and Sto:lo First Nation.  A founding member of the Board of Directors, she was Executive Director of the provincially registered non-profit society for the indigenous community. Hyne-Ju has participated in field hockey, volleyball, basketball, track, finished two full marathons, and established a Mom’s Ministry that continues today. 

Hyne-Ju lives in Vancouver with her husband and youngest son Marc. She is also blessed with eleven older children including: her first-born, a daughter whose name translates beautiful true serving as a Vancouver police officer; Emmanuel, a branch manager for a major Canadian bank; a son whose name translates forgiving merciful; Job, the father of grandchildren, Euphrati, Magnus, and Katyusha; Joseph, a general manager; Jeremiah, managing in the hotel industry; Sarah Rachel, teaching English in Korea after graduating from UBC; Noah, one of the youngest students entering UBC with Sarah on entrance scholarships after graduating high school together, even though she is two years older; Serenity Faith and Clarity Truth, both studying in Ontario; Jacob, pursuing TWU’s Game Development degree.

Expertise

Hyne-Ju Huizenga’s research focus is on the balanced scorecard and its financial, customer, internal process, and learning and growth perspectives.  Her expertise is on sustainability and growth for higher education institutions dependent on international enrollment, needing agile architecture in its support structures.
