Centre for Conducting Excellence

The Centre for Conducting Excellence (CCE) is a visionary initiative dedicated to advancing the art and craft of conducting through education, performance, and community engagement. Founded with the goal of supporting conductors at all stages of their development, the CCE provides meaningful training opportunities that extend beyond the traditional classroom.

At the heart of the centre is a commitment to hands-on learning. Through workshops, podium sessions, mentorship, and collaborative projects, conductors gain practical experience leading ensembles in real time. The CCE offers a variety of programs tailored to music educators, emerging professionals, church musicians, and community conductors—each designed to meet participants where they are and help them grow artistically and technically.

The Centre for Conducting Excellence exists not only to refine conducting technique but also to foster leadership, musical expression, and a vibrant choral community. It is a space where conductors are inspired, equipped, and empowered to make lasting impact through music.

There are six faculty members from SAMC who are involved in the CCE: Dr. David Squires, Dr. Jon Thompson, Dr. Ben Ewert, Prof. Rob Workman, Prof. Carmen Hollett, and Prof. Cathrie Yuen.
